About India Cooling Coalition

What is India Cooling Coalition all about?

The India Cooling Coalition (ICC) is a dynamic multi-stakeholder group comprising non-profits, academic and research institutions, and industry associations dedicated to sustainable cooling research and application. It serves as a national platform for dialogue with diverse stakeholders, recommending policy initiatives to ensure the success of government programs while advocating for affordable and sustainable cooling for all. With 23 member organisations, the ICC aims to accelerate the implementation of the India Cooling Action Plan and strategically address developmental challenges aligned with national and international commitments such as the Kigali Amendment, the Paris Agreement, and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Goals of India Cooling Coalition

Recasting the Sustainable and Smart Space Cooling Coalition as India Cooling Coalition

Our History

  • 2016-17

    Phase 1

AEEE with support from Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation (SSEF), took the initiative in bringing together research and academic institutions, industry associations, and non-profit organisations, to form the Sustainable and Smart Space Cooling Coalition. As one of the initial tasks, the coalition members jointly prepared the report on 'Thermal Comfort for All'. The report provides a holistic view of sustainable and smart space cooling strategies and recommends adopting Lean, Mean and Green approach to meet India’s thermal comfort needs.

  • 2017-19

    Phase II

In its second phase, the SSSCC, with the addition of Centre of Policy Research (CPR), Greentech Knowledge Solutions Pvt. Ltd (GKSPL), Glazing Society of India (GSI), India Green Building Council (IGBC), and The Energy Resources Institute (TERI); convened in the wake of the India Cooling Action Plan (ICAP) released by the Ministry of environment, Forest & Climate Change. The Coalition agreed to lend its common drive to further the national agenda put forth by the ICAP. Based on their expertise, the Coalition members contributed significantly towards the framing of the India Cooling Action Plan.

  • 2019-20

    Phase III

The Coalition members’ collective capabilities span across multiple and cross-cutting aspects of cooling – not limited to space cooling in buildings – as demonstrated during some of the Coalition members’ involvement in the development of the ICAP. As such, the Coalition intends to leverage the team’s collective skills to address cooling in an all-inclusive manner and continually support the implementation of the ICAP. This is the rationale for repositioning the Coalition and recasting it as the “India Cooling Coalition” in its 3rd Phase

  • 2021-22

    Phase IV

In its fourth phase, the India Cooling Coalition honed its communication strategy to elevate strategic priorities. Key activities included launching social media handles, providing insightful commentary on news and policy, and initiating digital media campaigns to spur forward-thinking dialogue. Roundtables and webinars facilitated stakeholder engagement and knowledge sharing.

  • 2023-24

    Phase V

ICC Phase V emphasized synergies to promote sustainable practices in the cooling industry. Through strategic coordination and effective communication, it drove collective action for meaningful progress. Leveraging member expertise, ICC raised awareness through webinars and knowledge sharing, building a narrative around sustainable cooling. The inaugural ICC Annual Conclave convened members and stakeholders to amplify voices on cooling.
